My self portrait series tends to be raw and vulnerable in showing the "not so pretty" side of myself. Most of the time, they are very 'in the moment' where a mental breakdown just happened or my anxiety and depression gets the best of me. Those are very dark times that makes you feel isolated. These pieces illustrate those gray moments, and within those moments, you are not alone. This topic of mental illness is taboo and we tend to not speak or express it for fear of judgement. I want to push that taboo and help end the stigma surrounding mental illness.
Mental illnesses are very real and should be taken just as seriously as any other sicknesses, diseases, etc. Please keep in mind that if you don't believe that these things exist because you do not experience it first hand, that does not mean it doesn't exist. If you do struggle, please always keep in mind that you are not alone and that it's always okay to ask for help. Reach out to a trusted friend or family member and if you feel that you don't have the support you need, help is always around. There are always things to keep living for.
